Your team: Commercial Engineering is a vital part of the thriving engineering community in Technology at News UK. We design develop and operate News UKs commercial products and platforms. Our mission is to drive strategic goals across the ecosystem starting with the core websites of The Sun and The Times and including a portfolio of products such as Dream Team and Sun Football.

Your Role: As a Commercial Engineer you will be part of a dynamic team that is driving the future of media technology. Reporting to the Head of Commercial Engineering you will work alongside senior engineers to develop and maintain our commercial platforms. This role is perfect for someone looking to grow their technical skills while contributing to real-world products that reach millions of users.

Day to day you will:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality commercial platforms ensuring products reach our vast audience effectively.

  • Collaborate with team members through pair programming and shared problem-solving to deliver robust software solutions.

  • modern engineering principles like SOLID and DRY to ensure code remains maintainable and scalable.

  • Improve the testing suite by utilizing frameworks such as Jest and Playwright to advocate for a test-driven development approach.

  • Participate actively in an Agile environment contributing to ceremonies and helping the team meet its strategic goals.

  • Solve technical problems with a curious mindset seeking out opportunities to learn from more experienced engineers.

What were looking for from you:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript specifically using React to build interactive and responsive user interfaces.

  • Utilise and modern state management patterns to manage data and backend logic effectively.

  • a strong understanding of RESTful APIs and modern web development to integrate complex systems.

  • Show expertise in testing frameworks to ensure software reliability and high code quality.

  • Exhibit the ability to work independently on well-defined tasks while maintaining clear communication with the wider team.
