Where youll be working
The Pharmacy Department at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital (TRRH) is an experienced and supportive team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians committed to delivering exceptional patient addition to providing services at TRRH the team also delivers clinical and pharmacy support to 12 rural and regional hospitals across the New England Northwest region of NSW.

TRRH is a 300-bed rural referral teaching hospital offering a comprehensive range of services including medical specialties such as neurology renal cardiology respiratory gastroenterology oncology and rehabilitation as well as general and specialist surgery obstetrics paediatrics and mental health. Critical care services include a Level 5 Intensive Care Unit Coronary Care Unit and one of the busiest regional Emergency Departments in NSW. A broad range of specialist outpatient clinics plus medical and radiation oncology supports patients across the region. The Opportunity
As a pharmacist at TRRH youll rotate through a variety of clinical specialties and the dispensary throughout the year giving you the opportunity to develop broad clinical experience in a supportive environment. Working within multidisciplinary teams youll review patient medications provide expert clinical advice to medical and nursing staff and support patients and carers in understanding and managing changes to their medicines. Regional practice offers exposure to a diverse range of patients and clinical presentations providing plenty of opportunities to strengthen your clinical knowledge critical thinking and problem-solving skills while making a meaningful difference to the local community.

Youll be well supported by a network of senior pharmacists the district Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) team and our dedicated pharmacy educator. Ongoing professional development is an integral part of our department with access to regular in-person and virtual education sessions in-services grand rounds and district-wide pharmacist education programs. If youre new to hospital pharmacy well support your transition into the hospital environment with structured guidance and mentoring.

This position reports to the Senior Pharmacist (depending on your rotation) and the Director of Pharmacy. Rotations include a variety of ward-based and dispensary responsibilities across general surgery orthopaedics general medicine paediatrics maternity rehabilitation coronary care intensive care and mental health. Involvement in clinical trials is possible as TRRH has an active clinical trials program.

While previous hospital pharmacy experience is desirable it is not essential. We value candidates who are curious eager to learn and motivated to expand their clinical skills.

To be successful in this role youll have a sound understanding of clinical pharmacy principles and the delivery of pharmaceutical services within regional or rural public health settings or the ability to quickly develop these skills. You will also demonstrate strong clinical reasoning sound decision-making excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing safe patient-centred care.

  • To be eligible for grade 2 candidate must be able to demonstrate fulfilment of the criteria for grade 2 pharmacist in accordance with the Health Employees Pharmacists (State) Award
