Chemistry Teacher

You would be joining an established Science department where Chemistry is taught through a strong combination of theoretical understanding practical investigation and real-world application. The department aims to develop students who are confident scientists and capable of applying their knowledge to challenging problems.

At Key Stage 3 students develop their understanding of particles elements compounds reactions materials and the principles underpinning the three sciences. As they progress to GCSE students build on these foundations through topics including atomic structure bonding quantitative chemistry chemical changes energy changes organic chemistry and chemical analysis.

At A-Level students are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning and develop the analytical mathematical and practical skills required for further study. The curriculum provides a strong foundation for students considering university courses and careers in Chemistry Medicine Engineering Pharmacy and other scientific fields.

Practical work is an important part of the departments approach. Students have regular opportunities to carry out investigations analyse results and evaluate scientific evidence. The department is supported by dedicated technical staff and well-equipped laboratories allowing practical activities to be delivered safely and effectively.

There are also opportunities for students to participate in STEM competitions science clubs university outreach programmes and enrichment activities. The successful teacher will be encouraged to contribute to these opportunities and bring their own enthusiasm for Chemistry to the wider school community.

You will work as part of a collaborative Science team where colleagues share resources discuss curriculum development and support one another with teaching and assessment. The school provides regular CPD and encourages teachers to take on additional responsibilities as they develop.

Chemistry Teacher - Experience and Qualifications
  • Chemistry Degree

  • QTS

  • Experience teaching Chemistry at secondary level

  • Strong practical and theoretical subject knowledge

  • GCSE Chemistry experience essential

  • A-Level Chemistry experience desirable

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills

  • Excellent classroom management

  • Good organisational and communication skills

  • Commitment to student achievement and inclusion

Salary

The salary for this Chemistry Teacher position will be paid to scale on a contract to scale MPS/UPS.
