ABOUT THE ROLE
ProfessionLX specializes in professional services where we engage our employees to empower them to excel for our customers. We are currently seeking a part-time Catholic Music Director to join our team in support of the RAF Lakenheath Chapel in Lakenheath England.
The Catholic Music Director will lead and support the musical and vocal elements of the Catholic Mass working closely with the Catholic Chaplain to provide a professional engaging and liturgically appropriate music program. This position will select and perform music appropriate to the Catholic liturgical calendar lead congregational singing and cantoring and recruit train and coordinate volunteers supporting the parish music program.
Successful candidates will have a strong background in music and vocal leadership the ability to read and interpret vocal and instrumental scores and demonstrated knowledge of Catholic liturgical practices and traditions.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will direct and perform the musical and vocal elements of Catholic Mass working closely with the Catholic Chaplain to select music that is appropriate for each service liturgical season and holy day. You will lead congregational music and cantoring providing arranged improvised or scored music as appropriate to the Mass or other Catholic chapel programs. You will also help train volunteers to confidently support congregational singing and other musical elements of worship.
You will support regular Sunday Masses as well as special services and holy days and coordinate rehearsals around volunteer availability. Because of the nature of chapel services some work will take place outside normal weekday operating hours.
You will maintain a diverse Catholic music repertoire that balances traditional and contemporary selections while remaining appropriate to Catholic liturgical practices. You will ensure music materials are used in accordance with applicable copyright requirements.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Two or more years of post-secondary education in music or a related field or equivalent relevant experience in a chapel or church setting.
- Strong vocal ability and the ability to sing and lead choral music consistent with the liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting vocal and instrumental scores including Gregorian Chant traditional hymns and appropriate contemporary music.
- Knowledge of Catholic faith liturgy and worship practices including familiarity with the Second Vatican Council and subsequent Catholic liturgical guidance.
- Fluency in spoken and written English sufficient to perform all responsibilities of the position.
- Professional conduct and presentation appropriate for a U.S. military chapel environment.
- Eligibility to successfully complete required background and installation-access vetting and authorization to work in the United Kingdom.
