Role: Caretaker

Location: Pyrland School Taunton

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 37 per week Monday to Friday all year round.

Salary: Grade 4 scale point 7 - 10 13.69 - 14.35 per hour 26403 - 27694 per annum (pay award pending).

About the Role

As our Caretaker you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance security and smooth operation of the school site. You will be the main keyholder and will play a vital role in ensuring our buildings and grounds are safe secure clean and well presented.

Working closely with the Headteacher and wider site team and contractors where appropriate co-ordinate maintenance activities and respond to the varying needs of a busy school environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the schools main keyholder opening and securing the premises.
  • Managing site security alarms and responding to emergency call-outs.
  • Co-ordinating maintenance and repair works and overseeing contractors on site.
  • Operating and monitoring heating systems and site services efficiently.
  • Maintaining the school grounds pathways and external areas including during adverse weather.
  • Carrying out general maintenance porterage and emergency cleaning duties.
  • Supporting the wider school community with room set-ups deliveries and site-related requests.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable adaptable and takes pride in their work.
  • Has excellent practical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can prioritise workloads and respond calmly to changing demands.
  • Has good communication and customer service skills.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Holds a current full and clean driving licence.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Is confident using basic IT and mobile devices.
  • Is physically able to undertake the duties of the role.

Desirable experience includes:

  • General building maintenance or caretaking experience.
  • A relevant trade or technical qualification.
  • Experience of working within a school or education setting.
  • Knowledge of fire safety asbestos awareness Legionella and Health and Safety regulations.
