Caretaker | Supportive Secondary School | Bedford

A well-established secondary school in Bedford is looking to appoint a Caretaker to join the premises team from September 2026.

This is a full-time long-term opportunity for an experienced caretaker or maintenance professional who enjoys keeping buildings safe secure and running efficiently. Youll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the school and helping create an environment where pupils can thrive.

Working closely with the Site Manager youll help maintain the school site to a high standard while ensuring health and safety remains a priority.

Responsibilities include:

• Opening and closing the school site

• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs

• Undertaking routine health and safety inspections

• Maintaining the buildings grounds and outdoor areas

• Preparing rooms for school events and activities

• Assisting with deliveries and contractor access

• Reporting maintenance issues and supporting site compliance

The ideal candidate will be practical reliable and able to use their initiative to manage a variety of maintenance tasks.

Previous experience as a Caretaker Site Assistant Premises Assistant Facilities Assistant or Maintenance Operative is desirable. Experience working within a school is beneficial but candidates with transferable skills from other sectors are also encouraged to apply.
