Overview of Directorate

The Offshore Wind Directorate leads on policy and programmes related to offshore renewables marine energy and sectoral marine planning to support the continued growth of the offshore wind sector.

The Directorates core aim is to maximise the significant economic benefits from the growth of offshore renewables for Scotlands economy citizens and environment as we transition to net zero. We also have a key role in ensuring the balance of economic and environmental objectives with other users of the marine environment.

We support the development of Scotlands offshore wind economy by:

  • working across the public sector to deploy strategic investment in ports and supply chain that grows our manufacturing base attracting capital inward investment driving economic growth and job creation;

  • demonstrating the potential role for marine energy in Scotlands low carbon energy system;

  • delivering enabling programmes e.g. through the Energy Act to streamline consenting improve regulatory certainty and accelerate deployment;

  • managing the constraints and opportunities of Scotlands transition to net zero through the sustainable expansion of offshore renewables enabled by sectoral marine planning that provides clarity reduces risk and supports balanced use of the marine space.



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on delivery of corporate requirements including business continuity certificate of assurance and corporate compliance.

  • Support business delivery for the Directorate including coordinating and updating the business plan workforce planning financial monitoring and reporting (including acting as BCLO reporting of staff costs central finance commissions SMT papers and journals).

  • Join and lead for the Directorate on the regular Business Managers network meetings reporting back to the team/Director as necessary.

  • Support delivery of wider business management functions as required to provide resilience within the team including managing the Directors inbox or diary.

  • Support delivery of Directors stakeholder engagement and regularly evaluate monitor progress identify emerging opportunities and adapt engagement programme as required.

  • Work closely with teams across DGNZ wider SG and Team Scotland partners - continually improving relationships with these key stakeholders to deliver offshore wind priorities.

  • Undertake any other appropriate duties as required to support the Director to enable them to fulfil their role.

  • Carry out all the duties with complete discretion and a high regard for confidentiality.

  • Work flexibly across the offshore wind directorate to support delivery of other priority areas of work as required.
