Job Summary

5 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

The Building Control Surveyor will deliver a professional Building Control service ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation across a range of construction projects. The postholder will assess applications carry out site inspections provide technical advice and work collaboratively with customers contractors and internal stakeholders to support safe compliant development within the borough.




Key Responsibilities
  • Assess Building Regulation applications plans and specifications for compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Carry out site inspections on a variety of construction projects to ensure work complies with approved plans and Building Regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to developers architects contractors and members of the public.
  • Prepare reports maintain accurate records and issue statutory notices and certificates as required.
  • Investigate and resolve Building Control compliance issues taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
  • Liaise with internal departments external agencies and other stakeholders to support effective service delivery.
  • Contribute to service improvements and ensure high standards of customer service are maintained.
  • Keep up to date with changes to Building Regulations legislation and industry best practice.
  • Support the delivery of a safe efficient and customer-focused Building Control service.


Requirements
Essential
  • Experience working within Building Control or a similar regulatory environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Building Regulations Building Act legislation and associated guidance.
  • Experience assessing Building Regulation applications and undertaking site inspections.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings plans and specifications.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with customers contractors and stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualification in Building Control Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Membership of or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CABE RICS or CIOB).
Desirable
  • Registered Building Inspector status (or working towards registration).
  • Experience working within a Local Authority Building Control service.
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and associated regulatory changes.
  • Experience using Building Control management systems.


Additional Information
  • Hours per week: 37 hours
  • Location: Hybrid office-based during initial training with remote working available once trained on the system.
