BSL Signer

We are looking for threeBritish Sign Language Interpreter / Communication Workers to join our Additional Learning Support team. This is an important role that helps Deaf learners and students with additional support needs access education participate fully in college life and achieve their potential.

Working closely with students tutors and support staff you will provide BSL interpretation within lessons and across the wider college environment. You will contribute to removing barriers to learning supporting student achievement and promoting independent learning. The role also includes participation in student reviews support planning and examination access arrangements.

We are looking to recruit three BSL Signers to support our learners across the following working patterns:

• Post 1: 18 hours per week working Monday Thursday and Friday 6 hours per day.
• Post 2: 12 hours per week working Thursday and Friday 6 hours per day.
• Post 3: 6 hours per week working Friday only 6 hours per day.

This is a part time fixed term role for 37 weeks per year

Key Responsibilities

• Provide BSL interpretation in lessons and around the college as required by students.
• Support learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to access education and participate fully in learning.
• Contribute to support plans student reviews and learning support activities.
• Assist with examination access arrangements where required.
• Liaise with tutors and support colleagues regarding student support needs.
• Deliver guidance and support to staff relating to learner requirements.
• Attend monitoring meetings training and continuing professional development activities.
• Complete relevant administrative duties and maintain accurate records.
• Support departmental improvement activities including quality and self-assessment processes.
• Work collaboratively to promote learner retention achievement and positive outcomes.

Essential Criteria

• Level 3 British Sign Language qualification.
• Good written and verbal communication skills ideally demonstrated through GCSE-level English or equivalent.
• Experience of supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students staff and stakeholders.
