Assistant Accountant

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team on a 12-month secondment. This role offers the opportunity to continue studying towards a professional accounting qualification.

Working within the Financial Statements team youll support the delivery of fixed asset accounting month-end reporting statutory reporting and finance improvement initiatives across the Society and wider Group. Youll gain exposure to Group annual and interim reporting processes subsidiary accounts preparation and external reporting requirements while helping drive improvements to processes and controls across the team.

This role would suit someone with strong analytical skills excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Youll be naturally inquisitive enjoy understanding how things work and have a genuine desire to learn and develop your knowledge of financial reporting.

This is a 12-month secondment opportunity.

What youll be doing

As an Assistant Accountant within the Financial Statements team youll play a key part in supporting the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting across the Society and the wider Group.

Responsibilities include fixed asset accounting maintaining strong financial controls and completing reconciliations to agreed deadlines. The role involves investigating and resolving queries to ensure financial information remains accurate complete and well governed.

This role will contribute to the production of Group financial statements and subsidiary statutory accounts working closely with colleagues across Group Finance to build strong relationships and develop a broad understanding of Nationwides financial reporting environment.

The role also supports the oversight of the Societys bank accounts maintaining accurate records and performing periodic reviews to ensure appropriate controls and governance are in place.

Continuous improvement is an important aspect of the role. Working as part of a collaborative team there will be opportunities to identify process simplifications strengthen controls and enhance reporting through the delivery of efficiency initiatives and system or process improvements.

About you

As a minimum youll have:

• Experience of working in finance environment and be studying towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g. AAT ACA ACCA CIMA)

• Strong numerical written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent attention to detail and confidence in analysing financial information

• An inquisitive mindset with a willingness to investigate issues challenge where appropriate and continually learn

• A proactive and organised approach with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls

• Strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel
