Art Technician

A successful Secondary School in the London Borough of Ealing is seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised Art Technician to join its creative and supportive Art department on a full-time permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical background in Art Design or a related creative discipline who enjoys working with materials equipment and students. The successful candidate will provide essential technical and practical support to teachers ensuring lessons coursework and exhibitions can be delivered to a high standard.

You will work closely with the Head of Art and teaching staff to prepare materials and equipment for lessons across KS3 KS4 and KS5. This will include preparing paints drawing materials printing equipment textiles clay glazes specialist tools and other resources depending on the requirements of individual lessons.

The department encourages students to experiment with different techniques and media so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable working across a variety of practical areas. You will help teachers prepare demonstrations organise materials and ensure studios are ready before lessons begin.

You will also maintain equipment and resources monitor stock levels organise storage areas and place orders when supplies need replenishing. Keeping the department organised will be an important part of the position particularly during busy GCSE and A-Level coursework periods.

The role will also involve supporting student exhibitions displays open evenings and enrichment activities. You may assist with mounting artwork preparing exhibition spaces and ensuring students work is presented professionally.

Art Technician - Responsibilities
  • Prepare art materials and equipment for lessons

  • Support teachers with practical demonstrations

  • Maintain studios and specialist art spaces

  • Organise and monitor art resources

  • Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering

  • Prepare clay paints textiles and other practical materials

  • Maintain specialist equipment

  • Support printing ceramics and mixed-media activities

  • Assist with GCSE and A-Level coursework

  • Help prepare student exhibitions and displays

  • Mount and present students artwork

  • Assist with open evenings and school events

  • Maintain safe and organised storage areas

  • Follow appropriate health and safety procedures

  • Clean and maintain practical work areas

  • Support teachers and students with practical projects

The successful candidate will need to be practical organised and happy working in a busy creative environment.

Art Technician - Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous Art Technician or creative arts experience

  • Art Design or related qualification desirable

  • Strong practical knowledge of art materials and techniques

  • Experience with ceramics printing or textiles desirable

  • Good organisational skills

  • Ability to maintain equipment and resources

  • Understanding of health and safety in practical environments

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a department

  • Creative and proactive approach

  • Commitment to supporting students creative development

Previous experience working within a secondary school would be advantageous although candidates with relevant professional workshop or studio experience will also be considered.
