Job Summary

CORE PURPOSE

We are seeking an innovative highly skilled and passionate Art Teacher to deliver inspiring visual arts education across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 A-Level Fine Art delivery). Working within a well-resourced Creative Arts faculty the successful candidate will foster creative confidence cultivate technical discipline across varied artistic media and guide pupils in building strong artistic portfolios and critical analytical skills.

Set on spacious grounds featuring light-filled art studios dedicated ceramics and printmaking facilities digital media suites and a pupil exhibition space this high-performing voluntary aided secondary school serves over 1100 pupils aged 1118 in Birmingham. The Art department is a vibrant creative centre that actively celebrates student expression through termly gallery showcases regional arts competitions and collaborative community projects.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver dynamic practical and theoretical art lessons across KS3 and KS4 (GCSE Art & Design / Fine Art specifications) covering drawing painting 3D design printmaking and contextual art history.

  • Post-16 & Portfolio Development: Contribute to A-Level Art and Design provision where required guiding post-16 students through portfolio building for university admissions and creative arts higher education pathways.

  • Studio Management & Safety: Maintain safe well-organized studio environments ensuring proper care storage and handling of art materials specialist machinery and hazardous substances (COSHH).

  • Assessment & Coursework Moderation: Conduct ongoing formative assessments guide student research journals and evaluate coursework in strict accordance with exam board criteria and moderation deadlines.

  • Pastoral & Co-Curricular Contribution: Serve as a dedicated Form Tutor run extracurricular art clubs and open-studio sessions and support whole-school creative initiatives and exhibitions.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Fine Art Visual Arts or a closely related creative discipline. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary art practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Art and Design across secondary key stages within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting.

  • Skills: Strong personal artistic technique across traditional and contemporary media proficiency with digital art software excellent classroom management and the ability to inspire creative confidence in pupils of all ability levels.
