Job Summary

CORE PURPOSE

We are seeking a creative articulate and inspiring Art Teacher to deliver dynamic practical and theoretical art instruction across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 GCSE Art & Design and Key Stage 5 A-Level Fine Art. Working within an established Creative Arts department the successful candidate will nurture artistic technique develop students critical visual literacy and guide pupils through diverse mediaincluding drawing painting printmaking sculpture and digital photography.

Set on a modern campus featuring spacious art studios kiln facilities darkrooms and digital exhibition spaces this vibrant secondary academy serves over 1100 pupils aged 1118 in Worksop. The Art department is an energetic creative hub hosting annual student exhibitions gallery visits and collaborative projects across the local community.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach engaging practical art and design lessons across KS3 KS4 (AQA GCSE Art & Design) and KS5 (A-Level Fine Art / Photography) developing pupils technical skills contextual understanding and personal artistic voice.

  • Portfolio Development & NEA Guidance: Guide students through Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) portfolio preparation and externally set assignments fostering independent research experimentation and high-level sketchbook work.

  • Studio Management & Health & Safety: Maintain organized safe and inspiring studio environments managing art consumables specialized equipment (e.g. kilns print presses) and COSHH compliance for materials.

  • Assessment & Moderation: Assess student portfolio submissions conduct diagnostic reviews and prepare work for internal and external exam board moderation.

  • Co-Curricular Engagement: Lead extra-curricular art clubs support Sixth Form UCAS art foundation portfolio applications and organize annual school art exhibitions.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Fine Art Art & Design or a closely related visual arts discipline. Confident Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Art & Design across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting with A-Level teaching experience highly desirable.

  • Skills: Strong personal artistic technique across fine art media deep understanding of art history and contemporary practice excellent classroom management during practical sessions and the ability to inspire creative confidence in young people.
