Art Teaching Role in an Independent School

An independent school in Derby is seeking to appoint an Art Teacher to join its Creative Arts department from September. This is a full-time role within a well-established school that values creativity individual expression and high-quality teaching.

Art is a highly regarded subject within the school with students encouraged to develop technical skills creative confidence and an appreciation for a broad range of artistic disciplines and media.


About the Role

You will teach Art across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 delivering engaging lessons that inspire creativity and develop students artistic techniques and visual communication skills.

Students will explore a range of disciplines including drawing painting sculpture printmaking mixed media and digital art while developing strong portfolio work and independent creative thinking.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art examinations supporting them in developing coursework portfolios practical projects and critical understanding.

You will work collaboratively within a successful Creative Arts department while benefiting from smaller class sizes and strong pastoral support.


Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Art across KS3 KS4 and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based Art lessons

  • Support students in developing coursework portfolios

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art examinations

  • Assess student work and provide clear constructive feedback

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

  • Contribute to exhibitions enrichment and departmental development

  • Maintain a safe and inspiring studio environment

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge across a range of artistic disciplines

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Art

  • Experience supporting GCSE and A-Level portfolio development

  • Ability to contribute to exhibitions or creative enrichment activities
