A vibrant secondary academy in Leeds is seeking an inspiring Art & Design Teacher to join its Visual Arts faculty for an immediate (ASAP) start.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an artist-educator passionate about creative expression visual literacy and developing artistic confidence in young people.

Job Overview

Art plays a prominent role in this schools academic and co-curricular identity. The successful applicant will deliver practical and theoretical Art & Design lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Fine Art / Visual Arts) with potential Key Stage 5 A-Level Art and Design delivery.

Working closely with the Visual Arts department you will guide pupils through project research technical skill development contextual studies and portfolio curation while assisting with annual student exhibitions. This is a full-time ongoing or permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging practical and theoretical Art & Design lessons across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

  • Guide Sixth Form pupils through creative portfolio building for university and art foundation course entry

  • Assist in organizing and hosting annual student art exhibitions showcases and gallery visits

  • Maintain studio environments print presses ceramics kilns and art material supplies safely

  • Assess track and report on student progress across practical portfolios and non-exam assessments (NEA)

  • Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor supporting student wellbeing and personal development

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

  • Honors degree in Fine Art Visual Arts Illustration or a closely related creative discipline

  • Proven track record (or clear potential during training) for delivering strong GCSE/A-Level Art outcomes

  • Strong personal artistic portfolio demonstrating expertise across diverse visual techniques

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
