Job Summary

We are looking for a Animal Care Instructor/ Technician to join MidKent College. The successful applicant will provide practical support instruction supervision and assessment duties as directed by teaching staff. Contribute to the planning and delivery of sessions ensuring safe practices in compliance with Health & Safety COSHH and College regulations while supporting student learning achievement and progression.

This role combines 11 hours per week as an Instructor and 11 hours per week as a Technician forming a 22-hour working week. Salary is the pro rata amount to reflect these contracted hours.

This is a maternity cover post ending on 8 October 2027.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

The following is an indication of the type and level of the main priorities expected of this role as directed by your line manager and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties or tasks:
  • Plan and prepare sessions in line with the agreed scheme of work.
  • Deliver training and supervision assessing students progress on- and off-site.
  • Provide timely constructive feedback to support student progression.
  • Deliver instruction on apprenticeship programmes both in the workplace and in college as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Manage issue and monitor the use of materials tools and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Record and monitor student attendance in workshops laboratories and core skill (English & Maths).
  • Work with teaching staff to maximise retention and achievement rates.
  • Support candidates in compiling portfolios in line with awarding organisation standards.
  • Meet with Assessors and Internal Verifiers to standardise assessment decisions.
  • Liaise with external awarding bodies when required.
  • Maintain a safe clean and well-organised workshop environment.
  • Exercise safe workshop practices in line with Health & Safety legislation.
In addition all post holders will be required trained to act as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
