We are looking for talentedAndroid Developersto join a digital delivery team working on services that make a real difference to people across the UK.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of developers designers product managers delivery professionals and technical specialists to build improve and maintain high-quality digital services used by millions of people.

You will be responsible for developing robust accessible and user-centred Android applications contributing to technical decisions and helping to maintain high standards of software engineering across the team.

This is an opportunity to work on meaningful public-facing technology while contributing to the continued development of modern government digital services.

Key responsibilities

• Design develop and maintain high-quality Android applications usingKotlin.
• Translate user and business requirements into reliable maintainable technical solutions.
• Write clean well-tested and maintainable code following modern Android development practices.
• Work collaboratively with designers product managers QA professionals and other developers within an agile multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in technical discussions code reviews and architectural decision-making.
• Develop automated tests and contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues defects and performance problems.
• Consider security accessibility privacy resilience and performance throughout the development lifecycle.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Help establish and maintain development standards patterns and best practices.
• Keep up to date with developments across the Android and wider mobile technology ecosystem.
• Contribute to an inclusive collaborative engineering culture and support colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing where appropriate.

Essential technical skills

Candidates should have demonstrable professional experience with:

• Strong commercial experience developing applications forAndroid.
• Strong proficiency inKotlin.
• Good understanding of the Android SDK and Android development ecosystem.
• Experience developing applications using modern Android development patterns and practices.
• Experience working with APIs and integrating mobile applications with backend services.
• Experience with automated testing including unit and UI testing.
• Experience using Git and modern software development workflows.
• Understanding of software engineering principles including clean code modularity maintainability and version control.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving application defects and performance issues.

• Experience withJavaand maintaining or modernising existing Java codebases.
• Experience withJetpack Composeand/or traditional Android Views.
• Experience with Android Jetpack libraries and modern Android architecture components.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and Kotlin Coroutines.
• Knowledge of Android application architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build and deployment processes.
• Experience working with cloud-based services and RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with mobile application security and data protection principles.
• Experience developing accessible applications in line with recognised accessibility standards.
• Experience with analytics monitoring and application performance tools.
