Job Summary

ALTEN is looking for an experienced Stress Engineer to support an exciting aerospace engineering programme focused on the structural integrity and performance of landing gear systems and components.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in stress analysis structural assessment and finite element analysis (FEA) to work on safety-critical aerospace equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform static and dynamic stress analysis of landing gear structures and components including struts wheels brakes linkages and associated assemblies.
  • Conduct structural assessments for aerospace loading conditions including landing taxiing and fatigue environments.
  • Carry out hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to substantiate engineering designs.
  • Develop refine and assess finite element models using tools such as ANSYS MSC NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
  • Correlate analytical and FEA predictions against physical test results identifying and resolving discrepancies where required.
  • Assess designs against relevant aerospace certification requirements and engineering standards including applicable FAR/CS requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Work closely with design materials manufacturing and test engineers to identify opportunities for structural and weight optimisation.
  • Produce clear and comprehensive stress reports technical substantiation and certification documentation.
  • Provide technical input throughout the design and product lifecycle supporting engineering reviews and technical decision-making.
  • Support failure investigations and root-cause analysis (RCA) relating to structural or in-service issues.
  • Develop technically robust recommendations and corrective actions based on engineering analysis.

Qualifications :

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience within aerospace structural or stress analysis.
  • Experience performing both hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Good understanding of static strength fatigue structural integrity and dynamic loading.
  • Practical experience with one or more major FEA packages such as ANSYS NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
  • Experience analysing metallic aerospace structures and components.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings load cases material properties and test data.
  • Experience producing stress reports and technical substantiation documentation.
  • An understanding of aerospace certification and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • Landing gear systems or components
  • Aircraft structural components or other safety-critical aerospace systems
  • Fatigue and durability analysis
  • FEA model development and validation
  • Correlation of analytical models against structural test data
  • Aerospace certification programmes
  • Investigation of component failures or in-service engineering issues
  • Structural or weight optimisation
