About the role

Barnets Carer Assessment Team are looking for a Social Worker with a passion for achieving excellence to join our Team. By being an assessing Social Worker you must be willing to make a positive difference and support the care planning of the Children and Young People of Barnet using a resilience secure base and relationship-based models of social work. The Carer Assessment Team in Barnet undertakes viability assessments of family and friends for children needing permanency as well as progressing to full Special Guardianship and Connected Carer Assessment to fully explore and assess whether permanence and stability can be provided for a child within their wider family or with connected persons. This role involves preparing reports mainly for Court and also Barnets fostering panel. An ability to meet deadlines is central to practice. The carer assessment team works closely with colleagues within the local authority and with other agencies and individuals in the community. The work is interesting varied and challenging.

About you

You must have:

Experience of working with children and families

Experience of completing all types of Kinship Assessments(Viability assessments Special Guardian assessments and Connected Carer assessments).

Qualification(s)DipSW BA Degree or Msc in Social Work

Knowledge and Skills

Good working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidance underpinning Kinship Care

Strong ability to meet strict court and panel deadlines

Ability to communicate effectively

Excellent report writing skills

Ability to prioritise workloads

Ability to build relationships with key partners

Knowledge of Safeguarding procedures

Flexibility to travel across the UK where required

As anAdvanced Practitioner you will also have:

The skills and ability to practice at a higher level which includes deputising for the line manager in circumstances where the line manager is not available.

The ability to demonstrate expert and effective practice in complex situations and be able to assess and manage higher levels of risk on their own and that of other less experienced social workers.

The skills to support less experienced social workers including providing line management and ability to thoroughly Quality Assure reports.
