Job Summary

Widener University is seeking an Accountant/Financial Analyst in the Accounting department. Reporting to the Accounting Manager this role requires strong analytical and data management skills as it involves working with large volumes of financial data downloading organizing and analyzing data in Excel to perform reconciliations variance analysis and data-driven reporting. The Accountant/Financial Analyst will support the Administration and Finance division by performing reconciliation of the Universitys treasury activities recording monthly quarterly and annual journal entries and collaborating closely with various departments across campus to complete financial reporting functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for oversight management reconciliation and communication of the Universitys treasury activity which requires extracting downloading and analyzing large data sets in Excel to research transactions identify variances and record journal entries.
  • Perform detailed data analysis to reconcile subledgers to the general ledger and explain variances using advanced Excel functions and tools (PivotTables SUMIF lookups and formulas) to manage high volumes of transactional data. Assist in preparing entries reconciliations and analysis for monthly and annual close.
  • Identify propose and collaborate to implement process improvements with the goal of streamlining routine activities.
  • Assist with employer related tax reporting and compliance. Assist in generating printing and mailing annual 1098Ts.
  • Extensive problem solving data querying data extraction and data analysis.
  • Preparation of various financial reports and regulatory reporting for the University and its affiliates.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission values and goals of Accounting and Widener University.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be adept at multi-tasking.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint). Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel including advanced functions.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and within deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit accounting.
  • 13 years of relevant experience in data analytics and accounting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

  • May require periodic overtime as needed (quarterly and year-end closings etc.).
