Job Summary

Part-Time Charity Accountant / Finance Manager

Contract: Permanent / Part time 3 days per week 22.5 hours

Placr Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Charity Accountant / Finance Manager to join a well-established charitable organisation.

This is a varied hands-on role with responsibility for the charitys day-to-day financial operations monthly management accounts regulatory compliance budgeting and financial reporting.

Working closely with the CEO COO Treasurer and Board of Trustees you will provide clear financial information and support the organisations operational and strategic decision-making.

The role would suit a qualified accountant or someone qualified by experience who has strong charity-sector finance knowledge including Charity SORP FRS 102 and restricted fund accounting.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the nominal purchase and sales ledgers in Xero.
  • Ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations accruals prepayments deferred income and accrued income.
  • Ensuring compliance with Charities SORP and FRS 102.
  • Managing restricted and unrestricted fund accounting.
  • Ensuring restricted expenditure complies with funding and donor agreements.
  • Working with budget holders to prepare annual budgets and financial reforecasts.
  • Producing monthly financial reports and commentary for the senior leadership team and trustees.
  • Monitoring cash flow liquidity and treasury activity.
  • Completing bank reconciliations.
  • Making payments to suppliers and staff.
  • Monitoring aged receivables and supporting the collection of outstanding income.
  • Managing the processing of donations grants and fundraising income.
  • Ensuring restricted income is correctly recorded and ringfenced.
  • Reviewing and improving internal financial controls and processes.
  • Supporting measures to safeguard the charitys assets and reduce the risk of fraud.
  • Liaising with external auditors and coordinating the year-end accounts and audit process.
  • Taking responsibility for payroll processing and HMRC compliance from April 2027.

About you

To be considered for this position you should have:

  • An ACCA ACA or CIMA qualification or be qualified by experience with substantial charity finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Charity SORP and FRS 102.
  • Experience managing restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Knowledge of charity tax compliance including Gift Aid and VAT.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts budgets and forecasts.
  • Previous experience supporting or coordinating a year-end audit.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to deadlines.
  • The confidence to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and trustees.
  • A proactive practical and hands-on approach.
  • The ability to work across both transactional finance and higher-level reporting.

Desirable experience

  • Preparing financial reports for major grant funders including the National Lottery and charitable trusts.
  • Working within an education sport or community-focused organisation.
  • An interest in education sport or football.
