About Downing International Programme
Since establishing Downings International Programme in 1998 the portfolio of academic activities has expanded to offer international students aged 15-17 a high-quality International Programme experience.
Cross-disciplinary learning is at the core of the International Programmes mission. The programme is designed as an enriching academic experience delivered through lectures workshops and cultural experiences.
The Programme is split into the following sub-Programmes:
- Exploratory Summer Programme (15-17)
- Specialist Summer Programme (15-17)
- Exploratory Winter Programme (15-17)
The Exploratory Winter Programme will run from 11th January to 22nd January 2027.
Details of the role
Downing College are seeking current postgraduate students who are studying their PhD or conducting their postdoctoral research within the University of Cambridge to join the 2027 Winter International Programme as Academic Tutors for the Exploratory Winter Programme course.
The College will be recruiting Academic Tutors for the following subjects:
- Computer Science
- Education and Psychology
- International Relations
This role will include independent curriculum development and academic instruction.
Curriculum Development
Academic Tutors will be responsible for planning well-structured and engaging lessons tailored to the Downing College International Programmes curriculum.
New Tutors will be expected to develop their course material will be paid a flat fee of 300 for this work.
Curriculum development must be completed by 16th November 2026 with Academic Tutors expected to finalise all course details by 20th November 2026.
Teaching
Academic Tutors will be required to work 3 hours per day 1 day per week as per the Programme schedule. Classes will accommodate up to 20 students running Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:30 and 12:45.
As part of the Programme you will be required to organise and supervise an academic excursion related to your subject area. There will be 3 hours of Programme time allocated for planning and delivering the excursion and you will be supported by a Programme Mentor.
The rate of pay for this role is 100 per hour and will be offered on a self-employed contract for services basis. Applicants must be able to operate as an independent contractor and will not be engaged as employees of the College.

We anticipate interviews will be held the week commencing 26th October 2026.
