Job Summary
Company Sergeant Major (CSM) Light Infantry Reserve Unit
The CSM is responsible for maintaining discipline standards and operational effectiveness within a Light Infantry Reserve Unit. The CSM is a key figure in the chain of command acting as the senior advisor to the Company Commander on all soldier-related matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Discipline and Standards:
- Enforce military discipline and ensure adherence to the Armys values and standards.
- Act as a role model demonstrating exemplary conduct leadership and professionalism.
- Oversee the welfare morale and development of all soldiers within the Coy.
Training and Administration:
- Support the planning coordination and delivery of training activities ensuring they meet operational requirements.
- Monitor and report on individual and collective training standards.
- Assist in the administration of personnel including attendance documentation and career management.
Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior NCOs fostering their professional development.
- Act as a mentor to soldiers offering advice and support on personal and professional matters.
Operational Readiness:
- Ensure the company is prepared for operational deployments including equipment checks and personnel readiness.
- Support the Company Commander in the execution of orders and operational tasks.
Liaison and Communication:
- Act as a conduit between the Company Commander and soldiers ensuring effective communication.
- Liaise with other units departments and external agencies as required.
The CSM plays a pivotal role in maintaining the operational effectiveness and cohesion of the company ensuring it is ready to meet the demands of both training and operational commitments.
