Job description

The Business Manager post within the Function or Cluster provides support to theHead of Operational Function including making recommendations to them aboutoperational and administrative requirements.

The jobholder acts as an interface between the Head of Operational Function andDivisional Hub cluster staff and other agencies on a wide range of issues.

This is a non-operational post although an understanding of the wide range ofProbation procedures and policies across the organisation both operationally and at-HQ are required.

The jobholder will report directly to the Head of Operational Function and have linemanagement responsibilities for the Diary Manager and Senior AdministrativeOfficers

Summary

The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Head of Operational Function. Thejobholder will ensure that performance across the Function or Cluster is monitoredthat issues are highlighted and opportunities to improve efficiency and effectivenessare proactively pursued.

The job holder will ensure the Head of Operational Function and others as appropriateare informed of priority matters and are given options and/or recommendations tohelp them to operate effectively.

The job holder will ensure that good working relationships with Head of OperationalFunction and are maintained by communicating priorities effectively.

The jobholder acts as a single point of contact for the Operational Function on anumber of key areas including Litigation Complaints Information AssuranceCommunication Business Continuity providing appropriate signposting as necessary.

The jobholder will ensure effective management of the estate portfolio within theirremit acting as Single Point of Contact / Estates Liaison Officer and has overallmanagement of Health and Safety within Division/Function/Cluster includingcompliance with Health Safety and Fire Regulations (H&S)

The post holder will ensure all risk assessments are undertaken and staff are madeaware of their personal responsibility toward H&S complianceThe jobholder will also manage relationships and liaise with a range of internal andexternal stakeholders and support the partnership working in the Function or Cluster

Business Manager Housing Support Services

Housing Support Services provide regionally managed locally delivered accommodation support for people on probation. The service operates across custody and community coordinating partnerships managing performance and ensuring housing interventions align with probation priorities and governance requirements.

The Business Manager plays a key role in supporting the Head of Housing Support Services and the wider team by providing effective business support. This includes leading on workforce and resource planning overseeing budgets and financial monitoring coordinating data collection analysis and reporting.

The standard approach is for panel members to sift against all identified areas; however event that a campaign receives a large volume of applications panel members can opt to conduct to sift based on one lead behaviour. This lead behaviour will need to be clearly identified to candidates as part of the application process.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Hybrid Working will not suit everyones circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised roles the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to aMoJoffice location which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.

Some of MoJs terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on modernised terms in their current post or onto unmodernised MoJ terms if they are on unmodernised terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week excluding breaks which are unpaid. HMPPS welcomes part-time flexible and job-sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. All applications for part-time flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance withthe HMPPS Flexible Working policy.

Annual Leave

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years service plus public for part-time and job share posts will be calculated on a pro-rata basis
