This is a temporary 18-month post based in London. You will spend at least 60% of your time in a workplace and meeting certain business needs.
Role Summary
This is a new HEO role in the Delivery Unit which works across all Judicial Office directorates to support priority governance project and corporate activity. The postholder will provide PMO and secretariat support to the IAR Impact and Delivery Board which has been established to support the Judicial Office and Judiciary in preparing for and managing the impact of Immigration and Asylum Reform (IAR).
Reporting to the SEO PMO Governance Adviser and working closely with the Grade 6 Head of Delivery Unit and Private Offices the postholder will help ensure that Board meetings are well organised papers are coordinated actions and decisions are tracked and project documentation is maintained. The role will also support other boards and wider Delivery Unit activity including appropriate governance project and corporate work displaced by the establishment of the IAR Impact and Delivery Board.
Judicial Office
The Judicial Office (JO) reports to and is accountable to the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to provide support to the LCJ and to the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and in delivering justice impartially speedily and efficiently following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. In addition we support and are accountable to the Senior President of Tribunals whose responsibilities extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The JO is an interesting and unique place to work. Everything we do is in support of upholding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. We work closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and others across Government as well as with the legal professions.
We are an Arms Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. This creates an interesting and complex environment in which to work where we agree our priorities with the senior judiciary and receive our funding to deliver them from the Ministry of Justice. The Judicial Office has been through a period of significant growth resulting from an expansion of our remit and responsibilities.
Main Activities / Responsibilities
The PMO Support Officer will:
- Provide PMO governance and secretariat support to the IAR Impact and Delivery Board and other Judicial Office boards and groups as required.
- Coordinate meetings and support effective governance processes including agendas papers minutes actions and decision tracking.
- Maintain project and governance documentation including plans risks issues actions and performance reporting.
- Support delivery by monitoring progress against agreed actions and milestones identifying and escalating risks issues and dependencies where appropriate.
- Prepare and coordinate Board papers reports briefings communications and other governance products building effective working relationships with stakeholders across the Judicial Office and partner organisations.
- Provide flexible support across the Delivery Unit including governance project corporate and other priority work to meet changing business needs.

Person Specification
We are looking for candidates with experience of providing project or secretariat support. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator with excellent organisational skills able to balance priorities deliver at pace maintain accurate records monitor risks and issues and know when to escalate matters for discussion or resolution.
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing project PMO governance or secretariat support.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work to deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft clear minutes action notes updates and papers.
- Experience of working with stakeholders and building effective working relationships.
- Ability to maintain accurate records track actions monitor risks and issues and escalate matters appropriately.
- Ability to work flexibly and positively in a changing environment.
Desirable criteria
- Recognised Project/Programme Management qualifications.

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office subject to local estate capacity.
Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly Hybrid Working will not suit everyones circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles: All successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode) either at a HQ building JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its locations respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJs terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on modernised terms in their current post or onto unmodernised MoJ terms if they are on unmodernised terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.
All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet.
Flexible working hours
The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time flexible and job-sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. Annual Leave
Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years service.
