Agora Energiewende
In line with global trends South Korea is facing the need to profoundly transform its energy and industry systems. Having pledgedclimate neutrality by 2050 the country needsa transformation tofully decarbonizeboth sectors within just one generationwhichrequires bold investments technological innovation and a detailed policy strategy. At the same time with morethan 90% of primary energy still sourced from imported fossil fuels the shift to clean energy is also a matter of industrial competitiveness and energy security; imperatives that have only grown more urgent in the wake of recent global energy crises.

As an international think tank Agora is pursuing the goal of achieving a secure affordable and climate-neutral energy and industry systems worldwide by the middle of the century.

With around 200 employees at four locations worldwide we combine research dialogues and public relations in our daily work to find answers to those questions crucial to the energy doing so we work closely with partners in numerous countries. And - very importantly - we act independently and free of economic or party-political interests.

In South Korea Agoras work supports the energy and industry transitionin close cooperation with local and international partners. This programme implemented from our Berlin office in close alignment with our partners in the country focusses on evidence-based analysis stakeholder dialogues and policy proposals.

Project ManagerEnergy &IndustryTransition South Korea(f/m/d)
Berlin Brussels or Bangkok with frequent travels to South Korea and other Asian countries full-time or part-time (minimum 32 hours)
Your responsibilities include
  • Conducting and managing specific research projects on energy and industry transition in South Korea with a focus on renewable energy expansion power system transformation and transformation of key industry sectors such as chemicals and steel;
  • Systematically analyzingenergy andindustry policies and economic trends in thecountryand writing studies commentariesand policy papers for those sectors;
  • Engaging directly with energy and industrial stakeholdersstronglyon system transformation and decarbonization strategies and translating their needs into evidence-based policy recommendations;advising government authorities on key policies;
  • Systematically transferring international best-practices as well as expertise and research results from Agoras work in the field ofenergy andindustry transitionto stakeholders in Koreaand contribute to projects in other East Asian countries;
  • Working with Agoras closest partners in the field; supporting them through joint projects skill sharing training and peer exchange;
  • Communicating results and insights from Agoras work as well as knowledge about globalenergy andindustry transition policies regulations and techno-economic developments to various audiences;
  • Supporting the development of Agoras long-term strategy in South Korea including developing project proposals and maintaining relationships with funders and key institutional partners.
We are looking for
  • A strong desire to actively shape the global clean energy and industry transitions;
  • A Masters degree in economics engineering or similar and at least 4 years of relevant work experience withenergy orindustry topics. Specific experience working in East Asia is advantageous;
  • A proven track record and field of expertise working in or with industry stakeholders for example on technologies/innovation economics or industrial processes energy systems or decarbonization pathways;
  • Familiarity with South Koreas energy and industrial policy landscape including key institutions regulatory processes and the political economy of Koreas energy and industrial transition is a plus;
  • Experience with working in international teams and networks;
  • Dedication reliability perseverance and a strong intellect; creativity and an ability to work independently as well as in a team; ability to take initiative;
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written ability to present analytical and research material
  • Working fluency in English; Korean and other language skills including German are a plus.
