This position is an internationally recruited position based in Bangkok Thailand. The successful candidate will be employed under local arrangements in Thailand.
The Opportunity
- Duration: 2 year fixed term contract with approximate start date July 2026
- Support with team leadership navigating complex scenarios to drive positive results being an effective strategic partner for DFAT in the Mekong Hub in Bangkok
The Role
Mekong Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP SU):The objective of the Mekong-Australia Partnership Phase 2 Support Unit (MAP SU or SU) is to provide efficient and effective support and enabling services and delivery of selected MAP activities as directed by the Mekong Hub at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok Thailand to ensure that Australia is a trusted and visible partner in supporting a resilient inclusive and sustainable Mekong subregion. The Support Unit will deliver the Leadership and Skills program and enabling services for the Transnational Crime program. It will also support programming by providing administrative logistical and/or technical support and assist in the execution of parts of MAP such as organising events conducting training or managing specific components.
The Deputy Director is a senior member of the MAP SU Executive Management Team and the principal lead for MAP SU shared services including operations support functions finance procurement and office management with responsibility for ensuring that MAP SU systems controls and services operate efficiently transparently and in compliance with DFAT and Tetra Tech requirements.
The role provides executive operational leadership financial oversight procurement assurance and shared services coordination across MAP SU.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership of finance and operations functions ensuring effective compliant and high-quality support to program delivery
- Lead financial management and oversight including budgeting forecasting reporting and performance analysis
- Oversee procurement and contract management ensuring alignment with client requirements and organisational policies
- Strengthen operational governance risk management and internal controls to support accountability and informed decision-making
- Lead and develop a high-performing team while supporting senior leadership and deputising for the Executive Director as required
About You
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Commerce Business Project Management or International Development. Postgraduate qualifications are preferred.
- Formal accreditation highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in program management.
- Experience in logistics and procurement and with government or corporate policies for donor funded programs. DFAT experience an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience establishing and improving systems and implementing policies and standards across large programs or organisations.
- Establish maintain and model a positive and open work culture that supports individuals strengthens team dynamics and builds accountability.
- Understanding of aid effectiveness principles and cross cutting development issues and their application in the Southeast Asia context.
- Experience in Southeast Asia or the Mekong region highly valued.
- Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
