As Newton Russell continues to grow we are looking for an experienced finance professional based in Sri Lanka to take ownership of the day-to-day financial management bookkeeping and accounting operations of the business.

The Role

We are seeking a highly capable and hands-on Finance Manager / Senior Accountant to manage Newton Russells finance operations.

This is not a purely transactional bookkeeping role. The successful candidate will be expected to take end-to-end ownership of the companys financial records monthly close accounts payable and receivable management reporting reconciliations cash-flow visibility and coordination with external accountants and advisers.

The role is suited to an experienced finance professional who is comfortable working independently dealing directly with senior executives and ensuring that the companys financial information is accurate current and well controlled.

The successful candidate must be CIMA and/or Chartered Accountant qualified have significant practical experience with Xero and have at least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

Experience working with international businesses particularly Australian or Singaporean companies will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Bookkeeping
  • Take ownership of the companys accounting records within Xero.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately and promptly recorded.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure appropriate account coding and classification.
  • Perform regular bank credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.
  • Ensure the accounting records remain complete current and ready for review at all times.
Accounts Payable
  • Manage supplier invoices and accounts payable processes.
  • Verify invoices against approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain payment schedules and prepare payments for approval.
  • Monitor outstanding liabilities and upcoming payment obligations.
  • Maintain accurate supplier records and respond to supplier queries where required.
Accounts Receivable
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices.
  • Maintain accurate customer account records.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and payment due dates.
  • Follow up overdue accounts professionally and proactively.
  • Provide management with clear visibility of outstanding debtors and expected collections.
Month-End and Management Reporting
  • Own and manage the monthly financial close process.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts.
  • Produce Profit & Loss Balance Sheet and cash-flow reporting.
  • Prepare appropriate supporting schedules and reconciliations.
  • Investigate unusual movements discrepancies or variances.
  • Provide clear financial information to the CEO and executive team.
  • Assist management in understanding financial performance and emerging issues.
Cash-Flow Management
  • Maintain short- and medium-term cash-flow forecasts.
  • Provide visibility of expected customer receipts supplier payments and other cash requirements.
  • Identify potential cash-flow issues early and escalate them to management.
  • Support management decisions regarding expenditure and cash management.
Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Assist in preparation and maintenance of annual budgets.
  • Maintain rolling financial forecasts where required.
  • Compare actual performance against budget and forecast.
  • Analyse and explain significant variances.
  • Assist management with scenario modelling and financial planning.
Multi-Entity and International Accounting
  • Support the accounting requirements of Newton Russell entities operating across different jurisdictions.
  • Maintain accurate intercompany accounts and reconciliations.
  • Ensure intercompany transactions are appropriately documented and recorded.
  • Work with external accountants and advisers in Australia Singapore and Sri Lanka.
  • Assist with multi-currency accounting and foreign currency transactions.
Payroll and Employee Expenses
  • Support payroll processing and reconciliation.
  • Manage employee expense claims and reimbursements.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and approvals are maintained.
  • Assist in maintaining payroll-related financial records and reporting.
Tax Compliance and Audit Support
  • Prepare information required by external accountants for GST VAT corporate tax and other statutory filings.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting schedules and supporting records.
  • Assist with annual accounts and financial audits.
  • Respond to information requests from accountants auditors and professional advisers.
  • Maintain a calendar of recurring finance tax and statutory deadlines.
Financial Controls and Process Improvement
  • Maintain effective financial controls across the business.
  • Identify weaknesses or gaps in financial processes and recommend improvements.
  • Proactively identify unreconciled transactions missing documentation incorrect classifications or unusual financial activity.
  • Improve the efficiency and reliability of finance processes.
  • Help establish scalable financial processes as the company grows.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must have:

  • CIMA qualification and/or Chartered Accountant qualification.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Preferably at least 35 years of experience following completion of professional accounting qualification.
  • Strong practical experience using Xero accounting software.
  • Strong financial accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Strong accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.
  • Experience managing month-end close processes.
  • Strong reconciliation and general ledger experience.
  • Experience with budgeting forecasting and cash-flow management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management.
  • High levels of integrity confidentiality and professional judgement.
