Core Purpose

The Resident Engineer (RE) is the companys on-site representative for our civil infrastructure project providing technical oversight contract administration and site management with particular emphasis on roads concrete works and municipal services (including stormwater sewer and water systems) ensuring that construction activities are executed safely efficiently and in full compliance with approved designs specifications and contractual requirements resulting in the successful delivery of the project within time cost and quality objectives.

Key Performance Areas

Site Management and Project Implementation

  • Oversee daily construction activities on site.
  • Monitor contractor performance against the approved constructionprogramme.
  • Identifydelays and implement corrective actions in collaboration with the contractor
  • Ensure effective coordination of site activities

Contract Administration (GCC)

  • Apply and administer the general Conditions of Contract (GCC) conditions
  • Issue site instructions and manage variations
  • Monitorcontractual compliance and obligations
  • Agree measurements and certify completed work

Technical and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all workscomply withapproved civil and structural drawings and specifications
  • Review and recommend approval of materials and alternative design proposals
  • Identifyand escalate design-related issues to the Design Engineer
  • Manage on-site and off-site material testing
  • Understanding of SANS and COLTO

Stakeholder and Communication Management

  • Liaise with the Contractors Site Agent on all aspects of the works
  • Maintainregular communication with the Project Manager and Client
  • Attend all site meetings and chair meetings in the absence of the Project Manager
  • Facilitatecoordination between contractor client and design team

Health Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Monitor contractor adherence to safety requirements
  • Support implementation of environmental management plans

Documentation and Project Close-Out

  • Maintainaccuratesite records and site diary
  • Verify andfacilitatepreparation of as-built drawings
  • Assistwith project completion reports
  • Ensure proper documentation for project handover
Requirements

Job Requirements

Qualification:

  • A National Higher Diploma or B Tech in Civil Engineering or/ A BSC in Civil Engineering.

Experience:

  • Minimum of eight (8) yeas experience working as an RE or as a Site Agent for the Contractor.
  • In depth knowledge of road and concrete work especially for civil infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Civil Services (Roads Stormwater Sewer and water).
