The Production Material Controller is responsible for the accurate control movement and availability of all materials within the production environment. The role ensures that components materials and assemblies are correctly managed and available at the right time and in the right place to support a continuous and efficient manufacturing flow. It also maintains stock control processes ensures full material traceability and supports overall production efficiency and operational reliability.
KEY TASKS
General:
Manage all physical stock movements verification and documentation of materials and products within production including:
o Transferring kitted jobs from Stores to Production
o Moving raw materials from Stores to Production
o Relocating products and assemblies between workstations and assembly levels
o Moving assemblies between Supermarkets and Production areas
Oversee the control and organisation of Supermarket stock by ensuring correct placement of assemblies issuing stock to downstream processes and maintaining alignment between ERP records and physical inventory.
Maintain Kanban-controlled components within approved minimum and maximum levels to ensure continuous production flow and proactively trigger replenishment when required.
Process the return of unused waste or scrap materials to the correct locations (Stores or Quarantine) and ensure all related ERP transactions (including negative issuing) are accurately completed.
Ensure proper handling monitoring storage and labelling of raw materials sub-assemblies consumables and floor stock particularly within the cleanroom environment.
Raise issue requisitions for all non-BOM consumables and production floor stock requirements.
Support and participate in cycle counts across Production Testing and Supermarket areas to maintain inventory accuracy.
Liaise daily with Production and Testing Supervisors Production Planners Stores & Logistics and Quality teams to ensure alignment and material availability.
Promptly escalate any material shortages delays or discrepancies that may impact production schedules.
Maintain a clean organised and safe working environment in line with company health safety and quality standards.
Perform additional ad-hoc duties as required to support operational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification:
Matric
Relevant qualification in Supply Chain Logistics Production Management or Inventory Control (advantageous)
Experience:
25 years experience in a production manufacturing or warehouse environment
Proven experience in inventory control material handling or stores/stock coordination
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems for stock movements and transactions
Exposure to Kanban systems and supermarket stock control (advantageous)
Experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment (e.g. aerospace electronics engineering or similar) will be beneficial
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
Strong understanding of stock control principles and material traceability
High attention to detail with strong accuracy in record keeping and system transactions
Ability to interpret production schedules and material requirements
Familiarity with cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments (advantageous)
Strong organisational and time management skills
