Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical design and drafting expertise who enjoys taking projects from concept through fabrication installation and commissioning within industrial and process environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design mechanical systems for water treatment and process plants
• Develop and update Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Produce General Arrangement (GA) manufacturing fabrication and pipework drawings
• Create 3D models and assembly drawings
• Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Provide technical support for procurement activities
• Assist fabrication teams by resolving workshop queries
• Conduct site measurements and prepare as-built drawings
• Support installation and commissioning activities
• Develop and maintain mechanical engineering standards

Requirements:

• BEng BTech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• 38 years experience in mechanical design
• Strong AutoCAD proficiency
• Experience with Inventor or SolidWorks will be advantageous
• Proven experience preparing manufacturing and fabrication drawings
• Good understanding of piping systems valves pumps and process equipment
• Ability to develop and interpret P&IDs
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Willingness to travel to project sites when required

Industry Experience:
Experience within water and wastewater treatment process plants mining industrial manufacturing food and beverage pharmaceutical EPC turnkey projects or OEM equipment manufacturing will be highly advantageous.
