About the opportunity
The Platform Operations Engineer will be working to maintain and support critical on-premises platforms and infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring platform reliability implementing modern operationalpractices and supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives while maintaining
robust support for existing agency systems. You will work closely with variousstakeholders to ensure the stability and efficiency of essential IT infrastructure.
Your key responsibilities
- Maintain critical infrastructure platforms including compute storage
virtualisation and supporting systems across development staging andproduction environments. - Follow and implement platform standards executing infrastructure automationand modern operational practices to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support platform enhancement initiatives and implementation of new
infrastructure solutions ensuring alignment with enterprise architecturestandards. - Manage virtualisation platforms (e.g. VMware Hyper-V) including capacitymonitoring performance optimisation and lifecycle management.
- Implement and maintain robust monitoring and observability solutions for allplatform components using modern tooling (e.g. Prometheus Grafana ELKstack).
- Execute platform patching strategies leveraging automation to maintainsecurity and stability while minimising service disruption.
- Provide L2/L3 technical support for platform-related incidents conductingproblem determination and resolution.
- Support containerisation initiatives and maintain container orchestrationplatforms for traditional workloads where applicable.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate platformprovisioning and configuration management.
- Maintain backup DR and high-availability solutions for critical platformcomponents.
- Follow security controls implementation including access managementsecurity hardening and compliance monitoring.
- Collaborate with application teams to support platform stability performance and scalability requirements.
- Create and maintain platform documentation runbooks and standardoperating procedures.
- Support team members on platform operations and modern infrastructurepractices.
To qualify for the role you must have
Technical Requirements:
- Strong experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphereHyper-V)
- Experience in storage systems (SAN NAS) and enterprise backup solutions
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible Puppet Chef)
- Knowledge of container technologies (Docker Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code practices
- Understanding of networking concepts and technologies
- Scripting abilities (Python PowerShell Bash)
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or relatedfield
- Experience in infrastructure operations and engineering
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure components
- Experience in supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong documentation abilities
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technicalstakeholders
Desired Certifications:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- ITIL v4 Foundation
