The Specialist – Ophthalmology (Anterior Segment) is responsible for providing high-quality evidence-based ophthalmology care with a focus on anterior segment disorders and surgeries. The role involves the assessment diagnosis medical and surgical management of patients with corneal cataract refractive and other anterior segment conditions within a multidisciplinary tertiary-care environment.
The physician is expected to work collaboratively with consultants optometrists nurses and allied health professionals to ensure safe patient-centered care aligned with international standards and the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) requirements in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and manage a wide range of ophthalmology conditions related to the anterior segment of the eye
Perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and develop appropriate treatment plans
Perform anterior segment procedures and surgeries including cataract surgery and related interventions within scope of practice
Manage outpatient ophthalmology clinics and support inpatient consultations when required
Utilize advanced ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and imaging technologies effectively
Participate in multidisciplinary discussions clinical rounds and departmental meetings
Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical practices infection control standards and patient safety protocols
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the Hospital Information System (HIS)
Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnosis treatment options and follow-up care
Participate in on-call coverage as per departmental requirements
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives clinical audits and continuous medical education activities
Support teaching and mentoring activities for junior staff and trainees when applicable
Qualifications & Requirements
Medical Degree from an accredited institution
A recognized specialization or Board in Ophthalmology
Fellowship or focused experience in Anterior Segment / Cornea / Cataract Surgery preferred
Minimum 3 years of post-board experience in Ophthalmology in a governmental semi-governmental academic or tertiary-care hospital setting
Proven experience in anterior segment procedures and cataract surgeries
Eligibility for Specialist license with the Qatar Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP)
Strong clinical communication and teamwork skills
Fluency in English is mandatory; Arabic is an advantage
Preferred Competencies

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
