The Head of Mathematics Department is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and academic success of the Mathematics department within the secondary school. This role requires strong leadership, pedagogical expertise, and a commitment to student learning and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Academic Leadership:
* Develop, implement, and oversee the Mathematics curriculum in alignment with school policies, national standards, and best practices.
* Monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement.
* Develop and implement strategies to address student learning needs, including differentiated instruction and interventions for struggling learners.
* Ensure the effective use of technology and innovative teaching methods in the Mathematics classroom.
* Promote a positive and engaging learning environment that fosters a love of mathematics among students.
* Departmental Management:
* Recruit, hire, and mentor qualified Mathematics teachers.
* Conduct regular observations and provide constructive feedback to department members.
* Plan and conduct professional development activities for Mathematics teachers.
* Manage the department budget and resources effectively.
* Oversee the ordering and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure curriculum integration and student success.
* School-Wide Contributions:
* Participate in school-wide committees and initiatives related to curriculum, assessment, and student support.
* Represent the Mathematics department at school events and parent-teacher meetings.

Mathematics Department Head
Leading the planning process, in the context to build on student knowledge and expertise, develop significant units of inquiry, accommodate a range of ability levels and emphasize connections between curriculum areas.
Supporting teachers by providing appropriate learning materials, developing assignments, developing assessment tools and visiting classes.
Mentoring new non-experienced teachers.
Organizing weekly meeting for teachers to plan for inquiry units.
Using a range and balance of teaching strategies to differentiate learning.
Ensuring the coverage of the scope and sequence, key concepts and related concepts of his relevant subject.
Ensuring that planning, teaching, learning and assessment are interconnected processes, with a view to maintaining a balance of assessment, recording and reporting strategies that involve students, parents and colleagues in the assessment process.
Encouraging teachers to employ innovative teaching strategies, especially IT-focused learning and serving as their resource for new approaches.
