JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced compassionate and competent Registered Midwife to provide high-quality maternal newborn and reproductive healthcare services. The successful candidate will provide professional care throughout pregnancy labour delivery and the postnatal period while ensuring the safety comfort and wellbeing of both mother and baby.

The Midwife will also support patient admission and discharge processes maintain accurate clinical records provide health education and counselling identify complications requiring medical intervention and work collaboratively with doctors nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide comprehensive midwifery care throughout the antenatal intrapartum and postnatal periods.
  • Conduct routine antenatal assessments and monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing.
  • Monitor vital signs fetal heart rate labour progress and other relevant clinical parameters documenting findings accurately.
  • Provide safe and competent care during labour and delivery in accordance with established clinical standards and hospital protocols.
  • Assist with normal vaginal deliveries and provide appropriate immediate care to mothers and newborns.
  • Recognise signs of obstetric and neonatal complications and promptly escalate cases requiring medical intervention.
  • Provide immediate newborn care including assessment monitoring breastfeeding support and appropriate referral when required.
  • Provide postnatal care and monitor mothers and newborns for complications and recovery.
  • Educate mothers and families on antenatal care safe delivery breastfeeding newborn care nutrition hygiene family planning and postnatal practices.
  • Provide appropriate emotional support counselling and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Maintain accurate complete and confidential antenatal delivery postnatal and newborn records.
  • Support appropriate admission and discharge procedures and provide patients with clear discharge and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare comprehensive handover notes and communicate relevant patient information effectively to the incoming clinical team.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards at all times.
  • Ensure proper handling storage and documentation of medications consumables and maternity supplies.
  • Ensure that maternity and delivery equipment is clean functional properly arranged and appropriately maintained.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and infection prevention and control within the maternity and clinical areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with doctors nurses laboratory personnel and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Promptly report medical emergencies incidents complications and significant changes in patients conditions to the CMD or appropriate medical personnel.
  • Participate in maternal and child health education and other initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  • Ensure patients and their families understand and comply with relevant hospital policies and procedures.
  • Perform other professional duties as may reasonably be assigned by the CMD or Management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered Midwife (RM) qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Must be duly registered and licensed to practise in Nigeria.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience in midwifery.
  • Previous experience in a hospital maternity centre clinic or similar healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of antenatal intrapartum postnatal and newborn care.
  • Ability to recognise and appropriately respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
  • Strong clinical documentation and patient record-management skills.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and patient-care skills.
  • Compassionate patient-centred and professional approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with doctors nurses patients and families.
  • Strong attention to detail accountability and ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to professional ethics confidentiality and high standards of clinical practice.
