In partnership with our client a leading engineering and design consultancy we are seeking a Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of MEP projects from initiation through to handover. You will be the central point of coordination between clients engineers contractors and regulatory bodies ensuring every project is delivered with technical excellence financial discipline and exceptional client service. Who are we looking for
- You are an experienced engineering project manager with at least 5 years of hands-on experience managing MEP projects from planning through to commissioning and handover.
- You are technically grounded with a strong understanding of mechanical electrical and plumbing systems and the ability to coordinate across all three disciplines without losing clarity or detail.
- You are a confident communicator and client manager able to set clear expectations facilitate design reviews and hold difficult conversations when timelines or budgets are under pressure.
- You are organised and disciplined developing detailed project schedules tracking progress rigorously and spotting delays before they become problems.
- You are financially aware monitoring project costs against budget managing change orders and reporting on profitability with accuracy and transparency.
- You are a natural leader who can manage engineers designers external consultants and CAD technicians while keeping the team aligned accountable and productive.
- You are a risk thinker who identifies potential issues early documents them clearly and has mitigation strategies in place before they are needed.
Your Responsibilities
Project Planning and Initiation
- You will define project scope objectives and deliverables in coordination with clients and engineers conducting kick-off meetings and briefing the project team to ensure everyone starts aligned.
- You will develop project execution plans schedules and work breakdown structures establishing budgets based on allocated resources.
- You will identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies documenting everything clearly in an action risk register.
Client and Stakeholder Management
- You will serve as the primary point of contact between the client and the firm managing expectations around timelines costs and design outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
- You will facilitate meetings presentations and design reviews coordinating effectively with architects structural engineers contractors and regulatory authorities.
Technical Oversight
- You will confirm that approved design documents including drawings specifications and calculations meet client requirements ensuring clear communication of technical requirements across all teams.
- You will coordinate between mechanical electrical and plumbing disciplines to avoid clashes and oversee BIM and CAD deliverables to maintain the quality of documentation at every stage.
Budget and Financial Management
- You will monitor project costs against the approved budget preparing and managing change orders and liaising with the accounts department to ensure prompt invoicing and accurate tracking of accounts receivable.
- You will report on project profitability and financial performance keeping leadership fully informed at all times.
Schedule Management
- You will develop and maintain detailed project schedules tracking progress consistently identifying delays early and coordinating submission deadlines for permits and regulatory approvals.
- You will manage design phase timelines across schematic design design development and construction documentation stages.
Team Leadership and Coordination
- You will manage engineers designers external consultants and CAD technicians allocating tasks monitoring performance and conducting regular internal design coordination meetings.
- You will provide performance management and feedback to project team members fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Documentation and Reporting
- You will maintain design logs meeting minutes and progress reports preparing delivery audit reports for the Chief Operating Officer and producing monthly Project Manager Led Effect and Margin Forecast reports for project control.
Construction Administration
- You will ensure engineers review contractor shop drawings and submittals for MEP systems in a timely manner responding to Requests for Information from contractors and conducting site visits to verify that MEP installations align with design intent.
- You will manage change requests and variations building and maintaining strong client relationships that support repeat business.
Testing Commissioning and Handover
- You will oversee testing and commissioning plans verify MEP performance and coordinate the final handover of as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals.
- You will coordinate training for the clients facilities team by the contractor ensuring a smooth and professional transition at project close.
Business Development Support
- You will assist in preparing proposals and fee estimates for new projects supporting firm leadership in identifying new market opportunities.
What Success looks like
- Projects delivered on time within budget and to the technical standard agreed with the client with zero significant scope or quality surprises at handover.
- A well-managed project risk register that is kept current throughout the project lifecycle with risks identified early and mitigation strategies executed before issues escalate.
- Accurate and timely financial reporting including monthly PEMF submissions change order management and profitability tracking across all active projects.
- Strong client relationships that generate repeat business and positive referrals reflecting the quality of service delivery and communication throughout each engagement.
- A high-performing and well-coordinated project team that operates with clarity accountability and consistent output across engineering design and documentation workstreams.
To be considered for this role you should have
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical or a related Engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in MEP project management.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems and engineering principles across mechanical electrical and plumbing disciplines.
- Proficiency in project management tools including Microsoft Project and familiarity with BIM and Revit coordination.
- Strong contract and risk management skills.
- PMP certification is preferred and COREN registration is a strong advantage.
- Excellent communication leadership and stakeholder management skills.
