Job Summary

To perform the following duties and tasks:

  • Direct responsibility for the day-to-day management of the litigation portfolio of the bank.
  • Assists the Head Legal Unit in the formulation of appropriate strategy to ensure optimal performance of the department as it relates to the responsibilities of the Unit.
  • Review the first level case file and court processes respectively evaluate the merits of same vis-a-viz the strategy for pursuing same including but not limited to litigation arbitration amicable settlement etc and make recommendations thereon to the Head Legal.
  • Recommend on the basis of the review and evaluation above the appropriate fee to be paid to counsel for the handling of each matter for further review by the Head Legal.
  • Coordinate under the leadership of the Head Legal Unit the review and issuance of day-to-day legal opinions and advisory services to the entire bank customer complaints with potential legal claims investigation activities and interface with law enforcement agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable and robust Case management system for the bank for case monitoring tracking and documentation management for seamless archiving and retrievals with the overall intent for confidentiality better accountability and information usage.
  • Ensure that litigations involving the Bank are conducted efficiently and effectively in liaison with Colleagues throughout the organization and External Solicitors.
  • Coordinate mediation processes on behalf of the Bank working with the banks mediator and/or external counsel where required.
  • Review settlement agreements/ terms of settlement and ensure same is filed as consent judgments: Represent the Bank in mediation sessions.
  • Maintain records of all ADR outcomes and ensure compliance with agreed settlement terms:
  • Equip colleagues throughout the Organization with an understanding of basic and common litigation issues potential risk factors nd basic procedures so that they can meet the challenges posed by an increasingly litigious environment:
  • Support the implementation of the strategies plans and programs towards the actualization of the departments goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day engagement and interface with external counsel on all aspects of the banks litigation portfolio.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head Legal and the Head of Department.


Candidates must possess:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in law.
  • Has been called to the Nigerian Bar.
