About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Hematologist (Oncology) to join a leading oncology healthcare provider in Lekki Lagos. The successful candidate will specialize in the diagnosis treatment and long-term management of patients with benign and malignant hematological disorders including blood cancers such as leukemia lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
The ideal candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary oncology team to deliver evidence-based patient-centered care while contributing to clinical excellence research and continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Diagnose and manage patients with hematological disorders and blood cancers.
Develop individualized treatment plans including chemotherapy immunotherapy targeted therapy and supportive care.
Interpret laboratory investigations bone marrow biopsies blood smears and molecular diagnostic results.
Monitor treatment response and adjust management plans accordingly.
Manage hematological emergencies and treatment-related complications.
Provide transfusion support and oversee blood product utilization.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings.
Collaborate with oncologists surgeons radiologists pathologists pharmacists and nursing teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Coordinate referrals and continuity of care for patients requiring specialized services.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with hospital policies clinical protocols and regulatory standards.
Adhere to infection prevention patient safety and quality assurance guidelines.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Education & Support
Educate patients and families on diagnosis treatment options prognosis and follow-up care.
Provide compassionate counseling and support throughout the treatment journey.
Promote preventive healthcare and early detection initiatives where applicable.
Research & Professional Development
Participate in clinical research and oncology-related educational activities.
Stay current with advancements in hematology and oncology practice.
Mentor junior doctors and healthcare professionals where required.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or equivalent).
Fellowship in Hematology from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) or West African College of Physicians (WACP).
Current practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Additional oncology-related certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 35 years post-fellowship experience as a Hematologist.
Proven experience managing patients with hematological malignancies in an oncology or tertiary healthcare setting.
Experience administering and monitoring chemotherapy protocols is highly desirable.
