Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY
The Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist will provide comprehensive specialist care in obstetrics gynaecology reproductive health and maternal-fetal medicine. The role requires leadership in clinical decision-making surgical obstetric procedures emergency obstetric response and mentorship of junior medical staff ensuring adherence to international best practices and Nigerian healthcare regulatory standards.
Provide expert clinical management of obstetric and gynaecological cases including high-risk pregnancies.
Conduct antenatal intrapartum and postnatal care services.
Perform advanced obstetric and gynaecological surgeries including caesarean sections hysterectomies and laparoscopic procedures.
Manage emergency obstetric conditions such as postpartum haemorrhage eclampsia and obstructed labour.
Oversee family planning fertility management and reproductive endocrinology services.
Participate in daily ward rounds and clinical case reviews.
Provide specialist outpatient consultations and referrals.
Supervise and mentor resident doctors medical officers and nursing staff.
Develop and implement clinical protocols in line with evidence-based practices.
Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation and medical reporting.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anaesthetists paediatricians and surgeons.
Participate in maternal mortality and morbidity audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies ethical standards and regulatory guidelines.
Support community outreach and maternal health education programs.
Respond to obstetric emergencies within and outside standard working hours as required.
Contribute to continuous medical education (CME) and training programs.
Participate in hospital strategic planning and clinical governance.
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) or National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG).
Full registration and practicing licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Additional international fellowship (e.g. FRCOG MRCOG) is an advantage.
Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience in a reputable hospital.
Proven experience managing high-risk obstetric cases and complex gynaecological surgeries.
Experience in both public and private healthcare settings is an advantage.
Strong clinical and surgical expertise in O&G practice.
Excellent decision-making and emergency response skills.
Leadership and team supervision capability.
Strong communication and patient counselling skills.
Ability to work under pressure in high-volume clinical environments.
High level of professionalism ethics and empathy.
Proficiency in medical documentation and hospital information systems.
