Consultant Neurologist
Location: Warri Ughelli & Okuokoko Delta State Nigeria

Reports To: Medical Director / Chief Medical Officer
Salary: and above monthly (Negotiable based on experience and subspecialty expertise)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant Neurologist will provide expert clinical care in the diagnosis treatment and long-term management of disorders affecting the brain spinal cord peripheral nerves and muscles. The role includes leadership of neurology services emergency neurological care and coordination of multidisciplinary neurological treatment pathways.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Diagnose and manage neurological disorders including stroke epilepsy Parkinsons disease neuropathies and multiple sclerosis.

  • Manage acute neurological emergencies such as stroke status epilepticus and coma.

  • Conduct detailed neurological examinations and clinical assessments.

  • Interpret diagnostic tests including EEG CT scans MRI and nerve conduction studies.

  • Provide outpatient neurology consultations and long-term patient follow-up.

  • Lead inpatient neurology ward rounds and case management.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans for complex neurological conditions.

  • Coordinate stroke response protocols and rehabilitation pathways.

  • Collaborate with radiologists neurosurgeons and rehabilitation specialists.

  • Supervise junior doctors and medical officers in neurology services.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and clinical reviews.

  • Ensure accurate documentation of neurological assessments and treatment plans.

  • Lead morbidity and mortality reviews within neurology unit.

  • Provide patient and caregiver education on chronic neurological conditions.

  • Participate in on-call rota for neurological emergencies.

  • Contribute to hospital clinical governance and quality improvement programs.

  • Develop and implement neurology care protocols aligned with best practices.

  • Support community awareness programs on stroke prevention and neurological health.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

  • Fellowship of West African College of Physicians (FWACP Neurology) or equivalent.

  • Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • Additional international certification (e.g. MRCP Neurology American Board) is an advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience in neurology practice.

  • Strong experience in managing acute neurological emergencies and chronic conditions.

  • Experience in tertiary or teaching hospital environment is preferred.
