The Consultant Cardiologist will provide advanced specialist care in the prevention diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The role includes management of both acute and chronic cardiac conditions leadership of cardiac care services and coordination of multidisciplinary cardiovascular interventions within the hospital.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnose and manage cardiovascular diseases including hypertension heart failure arrhythmias and coronary artery disease.
Conduct advanced cardiac assessments including ECG interpretation echocardiography and stress testing.
Manage emergency cardiac cases such as myocardial infarction and acute heart failure.
Perform and interpret diagnostic cardiology procedures.
Provide outpatient cardiology consultations and follow-up care.
Lead inpatient cardiac ward rounds and treatment planning.
Collaborate with interventional cardiologists radiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons.
Supervise cardiac investigations and diagnostic protocols.
Develop individualized treatment plans for complex cardiac patients.
Participate in catheterization lab procedures where applicable.
Oversee anticoagulation therapy and chronic cardiac disease management.
Ensure accurate documentation of all cardiac assessments and interventions.
Lead clinical audits morbidity and mortality reviews in cardiology.
Provide guidance on preventive cardiology and lifestyle modification programs.
Conduct patient education on cardiovascular risk factors and disease prevention.
Supervise junior doctors and medical officers in cardiology services.
Participate in emergency on-call rota for cardiac emergencies.
Contribute to hospital clinical governance and quality improvement programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Fellowship of West African College of Physicians (FWACP Cardiology) or equivalent.
Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Additional international certification (e.g. FACC MRCP Cardiology) is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience in cardiology practice.
Experience managing both inpatient and outpatient cardiac cases.
Exposure to interventional cardiology is an added advantage.
