About the Role

As Chief Technology Officer you will define and lead the technology strategy that powers C54News digital newsroom streaming platform and future expansion across Africa.

Working closely with the Managing Director Product & Technology Lead and executive leadership you will build a secure scalable and resilient technology ecosystem capable of delivering high-quality digital journalism to audiences across the continent and beyond.

From cloud architecture and streaming infrastructure to AI-enabled newsroom workflows cybersecurity and platform scalability you will shape the technological foundation of a media institution designed for the future.

What Youll Be Responsible For

Technology Strategy & Architecture

• Develop and execute the long-term technology strategy for C54News.
• Design a cloud-first scalable technology architecture supporting digital publishing live streaming and multimedia content.
• Define technology standards governance frameworks and enterprise architecture.
• Evaluate emerging technologies that strengthen C54News competitive advantage.

Platform Engineering & Infrastructure

• Lead the design and implementation of the digital streaming platform.
• Oversee cloud infrastructure networking connectivity and systems integration.
• Ensure platform resilience availability performance and scalability.
• Guide technical decisions on hosting content delivery and infrastructure optimisation.

Digital Product & Innovation

• Partner with the Product & Technology Lead to translate business strategy into digital products.
• Drive innovation across web mobile and streaming experiences.
• Champion user-centric design and technology-enabled audience engagement.
• Explore AI applications that enhance newsroom operations content discovery and workflow automation.

Cybersecurity & Technology Governance

• Establish enterprise cybersecurity standards and disaster recovery plans.
• Ensure data privacy regulatory compliance and information security.
• Develop technology policies risk management frameworks and operational controls.

Leadership & Team Development

• Recruit and lead high-performing engineering and infrastructure teams.
• Build a culture of innovation collaboration and technical excellence.
• Coach and mentor technical leaders across the organization.
• Foster strong partnerships with vendors technology partners and service providers.

Who You Are

• You are a technology leader who enjoys building platforms rather than maintaining legacy systems.
• You think in terms of architecture scalability and user experience.
• You are comfortable moving between strategy and execution one moment discussing enterprise architecture with executives the next reviewing engineering decisions with your team.
• You understand that technology is central to how modern media organizations compete grow and build trust.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering Information Technology or a related discipline.
• 10 - 15 years progressive experience in technology leadership.
• Experience building cloud-native digital platforms.
• Experience leading software engineering or platform engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS Azure or Google Cloud) APIs streaming technologies and modern software architecture.
• Experience in digital media OTT streaming fintech or other high-growth digital businesses is highly desirable.
