Job Summary
In partnership with our client we are seeking a Back of House Manager to take full ownership of stockroom operations inventory management and product flow at a leading fashion and lifestyle retail brand based in Lagos. You will be responsible for managing product lifecycles from entry to exit driving the productivity of stock movements and ensuring the back of house runs with the same precision and pride as the front. If you are a detail-oriented experienced stockroom leader who takes genuine ownership of operational excellence we want to meet you.
Who are we looking for
- You are an experienced retail operations professional with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a sports or fashion retail environment including at least 2 years in a senior stockroom management role.
- You are highly detail-oriented and take genuine pride in maintaining a clean organised and well-functioning stockroom at all times.
- You are a strong leader who knows how to guide train and hold a team accountable using performance management processes to bring out the best in the people around you.
- You are thorough and process-driven with advanced knowledge of stock management inventory control and logistical operations in a retail context.
- You are a collaborative team player who works productively and respectfully across all functions from finance to buying and merchandising to keep the store running as one unit.
- You are commercially minded and always looking for opportunities to improve operations reduce inefficiencies and contribute to the broader success of the store.
- You are proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word and comfortable working with IC and omnichannel processes in a retail environment.
Your Responsibilities
Stock Movement and Inventory Management
- You will accurately record and manage all stock movements in and out of the store via IC and omnichannel processes in a timely and precise manner ensuring nothing goes undocumented.
- You will take full responsibility for inventory accuracy within the store environment executing cycle counts and controlling adjustments in line with your line manager and store team.
- You will ensure adequate inventory levels are consistently maintained at all times both on the sales floor and in the stockroom so the store is always ready to serve customers effectively.
Stockroom Operations and Health and Safety
- You will take ownership of all stockroom health and safety topics checks and compliance ensuring all policies and procedures are followed to maintain a safe and sustainable working environment.
- You will own the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the stockroom layout ensuring it is organised efficient and set up to support fast and accurate stock retrieval at all times.
- You will work closely with your line manager to ensure adequate consumables are provided to create an effective working environment flagging issues promptly when they arise.
Team Leadership and Development
- You will provide strong leadership to your team guiding and training runners on stockroom operations and managing their performance through the companys performance management system with the support of your line manager.
- You will make yourself available to support other team members when needed acting as one store team to meet or exceed the stores goals at all times.
Commercial and Operational Improvement
- You will identify improvement opportunities within the back of house operation and communicate suggestions clearly to store management to drive commercial success.
- You will collaborate productively with all internal teams including Finance Warehouse Area Management and Buying and Merchandising ensuring stock flow and operational processes are always aligned to the wider business needs.
What Success looks like
- Inventory accuracy maintained consistently across both the stockroom and the sales floor with cycle counts completed on schedule and discrepancies resolved within agreed timeframes.
- All stock movements recorded accurately and in a timely manner via IC and omnichannel processes with zero documentation gaps or unresolved variances.
- A clean well-organised and health and safety compliant stockroom at all times with a clearly maintained layout that supports fast and accurate operations.
- A well-led well-trained team of runners who understand their responsibilities perform consistently and contribute to a productive back of house environment.
- Stockroom improvement suggestions identified and communicated regularly contributing to continuous operational enhancement and commercial success for the store.
To be considered for this role you should have
- A Bachelors degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.
- A professional certification in senior stockroom management or inventory control is an advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a sports or fashion retail environment with advanced process knowledge and comprehensive stock management and logistical experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a senior stockroom or people management role which is mandatory.
- Thorough understanding of the retail industry and a strong commercial focus.
- Intermediate numeracy and literacy with advanced verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word.
