Traffic Controllers - Ō2NL Project

The Te Pae o Taraua - Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety resilience and efficiency as well as increasing transport choices for the areas growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in Partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Muaūpoko Tribal Authority local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council.

This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. We are seeking excellent people for this unique opportunity to work and collaborate with leading industry organisations.

Downer is proud to be a partner within the South Alliance alongside McConnell Dowell Beca and Tonkin Taylor as Non-Owner Participants (NOPs). Our scope is from Ōtaki through to South of the Ōhau river.

Te kōwhiringa The Opportunity

We are seeking applications from experienced Traffic Controllers to join our team.

We are looking for safety-focused individuals to support a range of traffic management activities across the project including:

  • Setting up maintaining and removing temporary traffic management sites
  • Monitoring traffic flows and ensuring the safety of road users pedestrians and work crews
  • Operating Stop/Go paddles and managing vehicle movements through work zones
  • Assisting with site inspections and ensuring traffic management plans are followed
  • Supporting crews with general site duties when required

Were looking for reliable and committed Traffic Controllers who understand the importance of keeping people safe while working on a nationally significant infrastructure project. Youll be part of a team that values safety teamwork and excellence.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Current Traffic Controller (TC) qualification preferred
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence preferred
  • Previous experience working in traffic management civil construction or infrastructure projects
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices and Zero Harm principles
  • Reliability a positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and confidence working in the local community
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions
