Job Description

A hands-on HR leadership role driving daily operational excellence on a major infrastructure project.

We are seeking an experienced Project Human Resources Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day HR operations on a large-scale complex infrastructure programme. This is a pivotal leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced highly operational environment and enjoys being close to the action.

About the Role

This is not a purely strategic role you will be deeply embedded in the project leading and delivering the full HR function on the ground.

Managing a team of 4 direct reports you will ensure seamless delivery of all HR services while working closely with frontline leaders project managers and a diverse international workforce.

The role will initially be based in Auckland CBD transitioning to a site north of Auckland as the project progresses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and actively deliver day-to-day HR operations across a large project workforce
  • Provide practical real-time HR support to leaders and site teams
  • Manage complex employee relations and industrial relations issues hands-on
  • Oversee high-volume recruitment onboarding and workforce mobilisation
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies processes and compliance requirements
  • Support workforce planning and resourcing in a dynamic changing environment
  • Drive engagement performance management and workforce productivity
  • Lead coach and support a small HR team to deliver high-quality operational outcomes

Required Skills and Competencies

You are an experienced HR leader who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves and working closely with operational teams in complex environments.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience in operational HR roles within large complex organisations or projects
  • Experience supporting construction infrastructure engineering or similar project environments
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume fast-paced HR activity
  • Experience working with international and highly diverse teams
  • Sound knowledge of NZ employment law and industrial relations
  • A pragmatic solutions-focused approach with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Confidence working directly with frontline leaders and managing competing priorities
