Mechanical Design Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Manager with a strong background in developing state-of-the-art data center designs. The ideal candidate will ensure that facilities achieve top-tier reliability and availability metrics (five nines) while satisfying demanding efficiency and sustainability benchmarks (PUE & WUE). The position requires deep alignment with international best practices strict regulatory compliance safety-in-design budget optimization and rapid speed-to-market execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery: Take ownership of the mechanical design for multiple parallel greenfield and fit-out projects across various regional metropolitan markets driving them to successful completion within program and budget parameters.
Design & Climate Optimization: Create concurrently maintainable systems optimized for local climate conditions and built to handle sustainable power and water constraints.
Technical Execution & Liaison: Attend technical interviews with clients and vendors; personally draft tender specifications develop construction/tender drawings and conduct rigorous technical evaluations.
Cross-Functional Knowledge Transfer: Perform detailed technical downloads to construction and operations teams while driving innovative problem-solving on-site.
Coordination & Compliance: Review equipment specifications equipment shop drawings and construction layouts to guarantee multidisciplinary coordination building code compliance and fulfillment of build-to-suit requirements.
Quality & Verification: Ensure total design output quality assurance validate construction drawings and verify testing and inspection results.
Procurement & Variations: Lead general contractor tender documentation and evaluations and manage 30%90% design variations along with technical evaluations.
Standardization & Strategy: Develop the overarching Basis of Design (BOD) standardized construction methodologies inspection checklists and material specifications for robust quality control.
Advanced Infrastructure Readiness: Deliver localized site solutions handle pre-consultations with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) adapt to shifting planning policies/laws and craft designs capable of supporting next-generation AI workloads.
Professional Seniority: 10 years of dedicated experience in Data Center Detailed Design including at least 5 years operating as a Principal Engineer or MEP Manager.
Technical Qualifications: Practicing certificate as a Mechanical Professional Engineer (specifically focused on ACMV and Fire Protection) is highly preferred; LEED professional credentials are also desired.
Advanced Engineering Studies: Proven experience executing mechanical studies including airflow modeling heat load and hydraulic calculations energy modeling for Green Mark certification and specialized CFD modeling (covering hot air re-entrainment rate of temperature rise boundary noise and prevailing wind exhaust impacts).
System Knowledge: Experienced in designing and selecting equipment for thermal storage tanks make-up water tanks centralized diesel delivery systems and specialized lift systems (goods and fireman).
Cooling Systems Expertise: Familiarity with a broad range of cooling methods including direct/indirect evaporative cooling dry coolers closed-circuit heat exchanges magnetic bearing chillers and advanced cold plate liquid or immersion cooling. Must also be well-versed in Chiller Plant Operation Systems sequence of operations and PLC flow charts.
Industry & Regional Capability: Prior experience in hyperscale data centers micro-electronics or critical infrastructure across regional metros is preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting is required.
Languages & Mobility: Due to close collaboration with regional stakeholders professional proficiency in English and Mandarin is required. Must be willing to travel internationally based on business demands.
