Customer Design Manager
Job Summary
We are looking for a high-caliber Customer Design Manager to act as the primary interface managing data center design requirements to meet strict client specifications. This role focuses on delivering high-availability and reliable critical infrastructure that aligns with sustainability metrics (PUE & WUE) international best practices safety-in-design cost frameworks and accelerated deployment timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Project Management: Accountable for leading multiple parallel greenfield and fit-out expansion projects across regional metropolitan areas within budget and schedule limitations.
Design Brief Enforcement: Author comprehensive design briefs and key performance metrics to ensure unwavering design quality across the portfolio.
Consortium Governance: Manage external consortiums of town planners architects civil/structural engineers MEP engineers environmentalists LEED consultants and geotechnical teams holding them strictly accountable to the projects core design intent.
Vendor & Field Alignment: Partner with suppliers and design entities to innovate across safety and efficiency benchmarks. Travel to sites to audit construction methods ensure cross-disciplinary site coordination and verify that equipment performance achieves concurrent maintainability and reliability metrics.
Customer Interface & Handover: Own design compliance and secure successful on-time technical handover to customers.
RFP & Technical Qualification: Support customer technical RFPs secure explicit customer design buy-in and qualify technical compliance deviations or exceptions (such as Service Level Agreements and compliance gaps).
Strategy & Evolution: Drive design standardization manage customer-initiated design variations make advanced design decisions and continuously align the companys infrastructure with the customers latest technical directions.
Continuous Improvement: Oversee total consistency in project delivery and construction quality utilizing lessons learned to initiate design upgrades and submitting innovative proposals to maximize speed-to-market.
Professional Experience: 10 years within a design consultancy environment with a minimum of 5 years spent working at a Principal Engineer level.
Credentials: Valid practicing certification as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect is highly preferred.
Sector Expertise: Proven design delivery experience spanning regional metros. Direct experience with hyperscale data center layouts and requirements is strongly preferred.
Frameworks & Delivery: Well-versed in diverse project delivery models including Design-Bid-Build and Design & Build frameworks.
Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding communication relationship-building leadership and negotiation skills.
Languages & Mobility: Full working proficiency in both English and Mandarin is required to liaise effectively with regional stakeholders. Flexibility to travel frequently or relocate based on project demands is essential.
