Responsible for providing guard and traffic control duties at the Washburn Tunnel entrances ensuring heavy-load trucks, hazardous materials vehicles, and oversized vehicles to not enter the tunnel. Completes vehicle accident reports and helps maintain/clear incident and stall events in the tunnel. Performs routine facility upkeep such as painting, cleaning, washing, and sweeping. Other duties as assigned.
Available Shifts:
Day Shift: (6am-2:30pm)
Evening Shift: (2pm-10:30pm)
Graveyard Shift: (10pm-6:30am)
All shifts are Thursday-Monday with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. (Must be willing to work all three shifts.)
Job Responsibilities of the Tunner Guard Operator I:
- Performs guard duties and traffic control in a safe and timely manner
- Performs all routine, non-technical maintenance as assigned, including painting, cleaning buildings, restrooms, washing, sweeping, watering plants, etc., in a safe and timely manner
- Checks all heavy load trucks and trailers for hazardous materials, unsafe loads, height, weight, requirements, etc.,
- Assists with vehicle accident reports in and around tunnel area
- Observes and enforce all rules and regulations for vehicles traveling through tunnel
- Gathers and disposes of trash and litter around tunnel area
- Communicates with control room via telephone and two-way radio.
- Physical ability to perform job duties including: walking, bending, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods of time and flag traffic
- Must regularly lift and/or move at least fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to work in inclement weather and confined areas.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent for an accredited educational institution.
- Ability to work well with the public.
- Valid drivers license.
Work Environment:
There are minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal weather and outside temperatures. The position involves dealing with some exposure to vehicle exhaust.
