Job Description

Provide DBA support for SQL server applications, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 35% - Maintain the Microsoft SQL environments within UiTS, including but not limited to: installation, upgrades, and patches to all Microsoft SQL instances; ensuring proper security levels are maintained; tuning; cloning; and day-to-day maintenance to ensure a high level of reliability and stability.
  • 15% - Document and implement procedures for database backup and recovery using various technologies.
  • 15% - Develop, maintain, and implement procedures to guarantee the accuracy, accessibility, and responsiveness of the database environment, ensuring optimal database performance and availability, including the identification, analysis, and resolution of complex database issues.
  • 10% - Provide assistance to application developers in the effective use of database query and programming languages and work with other department personnel to ensure all activities associated with the Microsoft SQL Server databases function smoothly and efficiently.
  • 15% - Serve as a resource on a variety of database integration issues, including migration between disparate databases, data conversion, capacity planning, and new application deployments.
  • 5% - Maintain documentation including data dictionaries and data flow diagrams as well as any documentation to meet departmental and audit requirements.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides support for assigned enterprise applications and their respective databases
  2. Primarily Production with some Test and Development
  3. Provide functional and technical support for end-users of the assigned enterprise applications, including but not limited to: applying upgrades and patches, ad-hoc querying, data manipulation, and managing end-user service tickets.
  4. Perform troubleshooting and resolution of system issues and provide functional-level support to campus end-users.
  5. Serve as the liaison between functional users and technical support staff.
  6. Maintain records and documentation to meet departmental and audit requirements.
  7. Creation of user accounts, assigning security access, and annual review of user accounts to ensure compliance to audit standards.

Knowledge/skills/abilities

  • 5 years of Successful track record as a SQL Server DBA.
  • 5 years of Ability to maintain OLTP databases. (i.e. installation; upgrades/patches; tuning; cloning; backup/recovery)
  • 5 years of Knowledge of query languages such as T-SQL and SQL
  • 5 years of Knowledge of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data security standards. (i.e. FERPA and HIPPA)
  • 5 years of Knowledge of system and application security threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., buffer overflow, mobile code, cross-site scripting, SQL injections, race conditions, covert channel, replay, return-oriented attacks, malicious code).
  • 5 years of Knowledge of data backup, types of backups (e.g., full, incremental), and recovery concepts and tools.
  • 5 years of experience and knowledge in code migrations, database changes, and enforcement of the data integrity
  • 5 years of experience and knowledge of application security management.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
