Our Client

A fully accredited Alberta Career College our Client offers online Diploma and Certificate coursework specific to the IT Industry. Their mission is to help Albertans transform their future by providing occupational skills training for indemand careers in a safe and supportive environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Financial & Operations Manager the Practicum Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the Placement of graduating students from the institution into a Practicum or Internship with Employers in the respective fields of the student's new certification. Based out of our Client's office in SW Calgary AB the Practicum Coordinator will be accountable for arranging 100 hour Practicums specifically in the areas of Cyber Security and Cloud Engineering. The ideal candidate will be an avid relationship builder and natural networker eager to support the next generation of talent hitting the marketplace in starting their careers.

**PLEASE NOTE: This position will start at 30 hours per week and advance to full time once the successful candidate is fully onboarded likely within 12 months maximum.**

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • 1 years of experience working as a Practicum Coordinator Practicum Administrator or other Career Services related roles
  • Previous experience working in Recruitment or Human Resources is strongly preferred but not required
  • Comprehensive understanding of the IT Industry is required
  • Established network in the IT sector is strongly preferred specifically in the areas of Cyber Security and Cloud Engineering
  • Exceptional People skills are a MUST. Actively seeking candidates who are strong relationship builders with innate networking capability
  • Effective time management organizational and customer service skills
  • Selfmotivated with a proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Complete fluency in the English language; both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Proven ability to ask the right questions and gather necessary information to find a mutually beneficial placement

Responsibilities of the Position

STUDENT RELATIONS

  • Conduct intake meetings with students approaching graduation to assess their specific areas of interest and career goals
  • Counsel students regularly on the status of the current job market sharing best practices for resume creation interview preparation etc.
  • Provide consistent support and communication to students throughout the interview process with prospective employers
  • Facilitate structured and timely follow up calls with students who have been successfully matched for a Practicum Placement to understand the overall "fit" from the student's perspective and attain feedback
RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYER RELATIONS
  • Attend virtual and inperson networking events on behalf of the college to promote the institution and expand the network of prospective employers
  • Establish relationships with community groups industry forums and other organizations throughout Alberta to gather leads on prospective employers
  • Regular review of job boards to identify available job opportunities that may be suitable for graduates to apply for
  • Facilitate structured and timely follow up calls with the hiring managers of employers who were successfully matched for a Practicum Placement to understand the overall "fit" from the employer's perspective and attain feedback
ADMINISTRATIVE & OTHER DUTIES
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records for all students including but not limited to: program details anticipated graduation date practicum placement employment contracts and other personal information
  • Conduct regular labor market analysis to gather information on starting wages employment rates and available job opportunities in all areas of Alberta with registered students
  • Build information packages to promote the institution
  • Other administrative office support as needed including but not limited to: answering phones electronic and manual filing calendar management etc.
